I will write about Rachel Sklar, founder of the TheLi.st which is a visibility and connectivity platform for professional women. She is also involved in leadership seminars and one of the founders of The Huffington Post.
I plan to write a profile about Julia Ough who is involved in Outdoor Pursuits and sustainability on campus.
I will be writing a student profile on Sania Ali who is a community leader and activist through the women’s center for gender equality, is a change agent through the LGBTQ+ center, and is an advocate through MSA/SASA. These are the main issues she advocates for, but she also will advocate for any pressing issues that presents itself.

I am going to be writing my profile on Carly Heman. Carly is currently a junior at Wake and is majoring in Business & Enterprise Management. She is one of the leading IM chairs and is very motivated to make healthy living and exercise an everyday activity within the busy college lifestyle. She is from Massachusetts and is possibly interested in continuing her teaching athletics in some aspect after graduation.
Fatimah Hussein had to stop playing softball when she arrived in middle school due to the inability to play with a hijab. Years later, Hussein founded the Girls Initiative in Recreation and Leisurely Sports, a program that provides girls-only gym time at the neighborhood center, upon learning that other girls felt the same way.

I will be writing my Student Leader Profile on Georgia Thompson, a WFU student who has started and built her own successful jewelry business.
This profile is on Yau Wai-ching who is one of the forefront leaders in promoting the independence of Hong Kong from China. She is only 25 years old is one of the most influential people leading the cause.
Yuriko Koike, Tokyo’s first female mayor, is a contradictory figure within Japanese politics. She rose through the ranks of the Japanese government, taking home a landslide victory over a rival democrat after a long career as a television anchor before assuming the role of Defense Minister. Despite her incredible resume and strong presence in a political field which is overwhelmingly male, Japanese feminists are unsure how they should feel about Mayor Koike. She follows a strict republican agenda, which has shown in her two months in office, and is backed by several ultraconservative groups who call for the reestablishment of Japan’s traditional gender roles, as well as the whitewashing of Japan’s war crimes.
However, the cause behind the Mayor’s decisive victory has a different reason entirely – according to Dan Sneider, faculty at Stanford’s Asia-Pacific Research Center, she was elected as a welcome change of pace from the abundantly scandalous zeitgeist of Japanese politics.
