Wake Forest Students Cover Downtown Winston-Salem

(VIDEO) Our Neighbor: The Soup Man

A Christmas tree farmer turned pastor, Ken Furches left the family business and answered a calling from God to preach full time. The change in occupation led to a new project and a new nickname. Folks in downtown Winston-Salem call Furches “the Soup Man” because he gives away a free meal every Monday to anyone near the bus stop who needs it. Some weeks he brings a pot of homemade soup and others he brings pans of store-bought lasagna. Furches says his weekly project has led to friendships with people from all walks of life including the homeless, downtown workers, and anyone else who is drawn in by the smells of his warm food.
