F.M. Kirby Experiential Learning Stipend Recipient Blogs

The Last Week

Hey guys, welcome back to the final iteration of my blog. It’s been a great run here at Singapore and I am nothing short of amazed at all that I’ve been able to accomplish here. This internship has been a great one for me in so many different ways. I have been able to meet and network with people thousands of miles across the ocean. I was able to have meaningful work in designing code to optimize processes. I also tinkered with new platforms/languages that I will definitely utilize as a data analyst in the future. And of course, experiencing this new culture, seeing so many new places, and living the city life have made my time here an unforgettable one.

In terms of what I learned the most from this trip, it would definitely be the refining of coding in languages like Python and VBA. I was able to get real problems to work with and solve. I also received help from many of my great coworkers in making the codes as efficient and effective as possible.

One piece of advice that I have for the students next year is to not be afraid to try new things. Even though I’ve always wanted to work abroad, I never knew just how exciting and rewarding it would be. Taking the chance of going abroad has definitely been one of my best decisions of my life.

Most of all, I’m so grateful for what the paths this grant has opened for me. It’s enabled me to cross the sea and work in an entirely different continent and entirely different place. I was able to learn all that I set out to learn and do what I set out to do. In terms of my future career, I had planned on working abroad and specifically in Southeast Asia. With this opportunity, I’ve gotten a start in networking and in experiencing what it is like working in a completely different environment. Thank you again for your support and I hope you all have a good one!
