Week #2

One of my favorite aspects of my internship thus far has been the diversity in responsibilities that have been assigned to me. Because I am interning with two organizations that are affiliated under one church, each day looks different as my schedule is designed to allow me the opportunity to undertake many different tasks. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays I work at the Dream Center which is preparing for Runners Camp, a free child outreach program at the end of June, and the Dream Academy which is an underprivileged children’s program which seeks to offer collegiate opportunities and experiences that will begin in July. On Tuesdays and Fridays my time is delegated towards working at the Closet of Hope, an ongoing outreach operated by Hope 4 Gaston, which is a referral-based clothing distribution program for low income or homeless individuals.

Because I have only experienced one week of structured work, my tasks are still being made evident to me, but I have responsibilities ranging from clothing sorting, record keeping, file transferring, equipment preparation, and meal distribution training. There is something so intriguing to me about all the many elements that are necessary to operate a nonprofit organization, and because I am learning and working with two, I am blessed with the opportunity to participate in the tasks required of both organizations. In my opinion, throughout my internship I will continue to learn the importance of humility and flexibility because all steps are critical and significant when it comes to coordinating different community outreach opportunities. I know as the summer progresses my responsibilities will continue to differ and I am intrigued to see what other experiences I will encounter.
