Week 8 at Hangar

My internship has been extremely intensive the last few weeks and so it has been very hard to keep track of the days. We are opening our final Kids Stuff and Wedge shows this weekend and I have completed my last theoretical for the summer. Conversations between myself, as the designer, and the shop have begun on how to best build my designs for Seussical Jr. The other members of this design team have also been hard at work on this show getting the drafting and renderings ready for builds. The lighting and sound plot are not due until August 3rd but costume and scenery have been into the shops since July 19th. We are currently struggling with budget and trying to find ways to make no money appear more expensive.

I have been continually surprised by the speed at which The Hangar functions. They turn shows around in a maximum of two weeks. This means that renderings and drafting need to be near perfect when first submitted to avoid confusion with the shops. This is teaching be to be a much more explicit and direct designer. I have discovered a new method of creating props research packets that I will be bringing back to Wake and will continue to use throughout my career. This summer is teaching me to make tough and odd decisions quickly. Art is not supposed to be right or wrong. As long as a decisions is grounded in the text and meaning of the show the no decisions is wrong. However, this is very hard to grasp and so I have been focusing on how to make the best decisions quickly and how to choose which decisions are the best.

The highlight of my week was finishin my scenic design for The Moors. I have attached a copy of the final product.
