Week 5: Pizza Pizza

This week has been huge for RVD. So many events, a few new interns starting, and chaotic energy everywhere. Nevertheless, this week was filled with learning, fun, and insane amounts of food.

I worked at my first press and social media influencer (Insta-famous in laymen’s terms) event, and it was nothing short of a whole new world. &pizza, a popular DC chain, is opening its first New York location soon, and we are the PR firm behind it all! Our agency coordinated top-tier press and social media contacts to come to the soft opening of the pizza restaurant. I worked the door, checking people in, as well as floated around the restaurant helping people take photos and providing information regarding the restaurant.

First of all, all those delicious food pictures on Instagram are usually taken on the floor. Second of all, famous food Instagrammers get SO much free stuff. Isn’t that the dream? I never knew how much went into these openings until I worked at this one. The amount of planning, coordination, and finesse that’s required is really something I never expected. Despite being completely overwhelmed, hot, and uncomfortably full from the pizza I kept getting fed, two amazing things happened at this event. First, and most importantly, I met the guy that runs @foodbabyny, one of the funniest accounts. It’s a regular, working dad who takes pictures of incredible food around NYC with his ultra cute and hilarious children in the background. I also got free pizza for a year from this restaurant- dangerous…. and luckily not close to my apartment.
