Drug Lunches… They Aren’t What They Sound Like

Happy Sunday!

So this week, I want to tell you about my wonderful fellow interns: Daniela, Daisy, Christina, and Sam. Daniela, Daisy, and Christina are all rising seniors at Rutgers, whereas Sam is a rising sophomore at Tulane. The five of us have become very good friends, in and out of work. It’s such a relief to enjoy the people I work with! We all work as intake counselors and we all aspire to earn our PhDs in psychology.

This week, a pharmaceutical rep hosted a drug lunch in our office. Contrary to logical deduction, we did not in fact consume drugs for lunch, but rather the pharm rep fed us salmon and gave us a presentation on the psychotropic drug he was representing. After his presentation, we were invited to ask questions about the drug, such as what neurotransmitters it works on, what it’s half life is, how long it stays in the user’s system, side effects, etc. Drug lunches are great because we get the opportunity to learn more about the kinds of drugs future patients may be taking, how these drugs affect them, and how these drugs can aid therapy.

Thanks for reading!!!
