Week 9!!

When looking at what I have learned about leadership…I believe it is more than just one man or one women. Leadership is the ability for one to listen to others, and act on a set of principles established by a group. When you’re a leader, you’re not acting on what is best for you, you are acting on what is best for the group. When applying this to the workplace-specifically to my internship-I find that we all lead in our own ways. While we have “leaders” for our different projects, we also bounce ideas off of each other and get feedback from one another in a way that makes things run more efficiently.

I believe my personal growth has also allowed me to reflect heavily on myself during my internship. I have learned more about accountability and what it means to work as a team with others. I have learned that in the workplace I am a rather social individual. I enjoy working independently, but I have also found something new; that I really work wel when I am around others and I am bouncing ideas off of other people.

This week’s highlight was actually really great! Environment Georgia held a luncheon at Georgia Tech about how Georgia and the country can run the electrical grids on 100% renewable energy. The event had many of Atlanta’s civic and city leaders…as well as many academics who are passionate about sustainable energy. It was co-hosted with Dr. Marilyn Brown, who is a Brooks Byers professor of sustainable systems at Georgia Tech. At the event, there was a panel of about four speakers who spoke about the challenges but more so about the reality that renewable energy is ready and available to power the grid.
