WFU reaction Lede – Brandon Liu
In response to the GOP Debate which took place in North Charleston, South Carolina on the 14th, Wake Forest students thought the candidates would often get too involved in personal issues or go off on tangents repetitively.
Lindsey Graham, a junior Mathematical Economics major, found it “uncomfortable to watch a cage match” as she saw the heated, popularity-driven spat between the candidates.
Catherine O’Connor, a Wake Forest freshman from England expresses her thoughts, opinions, and concerns about the said debate by stating, “The candidates were not entertained by the moderators questions and were pinned against each other when they would have rather talked about the issues.”
The lack of attention to more important political issues left Wake students focused on the candidate’s presentations instead of what they had to say.
Undergraduate Wake Forest student Linda Sui claimed, “Ted Cruz is sly, but while Donald Trump can be unrefined, he is straightforward.”
Wake Forest sophomore, Emily Lair, from Chanute, Kansas thought, “Rubio handles the questions very directly, I think that is extremely appealing to voters.”
Through the back-and-forth between Trump and his fellow candidates, Dugan found that he is a “hothead, which would not be ideal for a President.”
