This site is a product of the first-year seminar "The Floating City: Public Life in Venice through the Ages" at Wake Forest University in Spring 2015. Students enrolled in the course are examining the spectacle and pageantry of life in Venice from the medieval to the modern era, drawing on history, literature, art, music, theater, and film to observe a mosaic of views on Venice. The site showcases the results of student projects investigating ritual, masks and masking, drama, and travelers' tales. The site also acts as a point of contact between students enrolled in the FYS seminar and students studying abroad in Casa Artom in Venice, creating a cross-campus link that allows discussions, projects, and images to flow between students in the two places. The site is thus simultaneously a record of the academic experience in distant classrooms and the locus of a collaborative and evolving connection between the two.
