Almost finished…

Tuesday, August 14, 2012 5:23 pm

Dear all,

These past weeks have perhaps been the most interesting of the company’s history. The website, now defined as mimovel.com.br, has gained more ground than ever. I would like to take this time and present to you the development gates we have defined for growth and milestone assessment. We are also in the process of hiring a full time Javascript programmer to speed up the speed of readjusting the website.

Like I mentioned before website development is moving along very well. My assistance in its development (and quality assurance) has paid off and it is extremely satisfying to see a (almost) finished and already fully functioning website. All that’s left to do is add some finishing touches to the design features and remodel one of the pages. We have begun showing it to friends currently searching for homes throughout Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The feedback we have received is very positive and motivating. It seems we have been able to create a user friendly website, something which is essential for a website’s success. I couldn’t be happier with how it has turned out.

In these past weeks we have also determined the company’s “developments gates”. These define the milestones we hope to accomplish within a determined period of time. We have defined them as follows: Closed Tests, Open Beta – 1 City, Launch and Activated.

  • Closed tests: Entails showing the website to a small test group and apply any changes we feel necessary.
  • Open Beta: Launching the website to one small city in Brazil for “larger” tests.
  • Launch: Nationwide launch
  • Activated: Fully operating platform.

Last week we also interviewed our first prospective Javascript programmer. Everything entails he is the right guy for the job. Tomorrow our CTO is going to sit down with him and go through some practical exercises to determine his skill level as a programmer. It should be interesting to watch our very own “codeathon”.

Website Development + Media

Before I continue let me clarify what it is that I am working with. My brother is building, what essentially can be defined as, a real estate search engine in Brazil. Unlike the US which already has websites like Zillow and Trulia, Brazil is yet to welcome a real estate tool which meets the markets needs. The biggest chalenge so far has been the process of gathering this data from other real estate brokers and portals. However, with a long period of trial and error, the programming team has found the correct “formula” for this process.
This past week has been extremely interesting. We are beginning to outline our marketing strategy, a plan we are organizing with a outsourced company. Though I am relatively knowledgable of Google AdWords (process of advertising with google), I am very excited to learn about the intricate part of this process. (This company we contracted specializes in AdWords).

The day-to-day “activity” of checking the website for bugs and potential advancements continues strong. Each day the platform gains more life and its very motivating to see it grow and develop.

Website Development

This past week has been entirely dedicated to checking the website for bugs and foreseeable advancements. I have the privilege of working with some great programers who really know what they are doing and have a passion for the project. We are currently adding the last finishing touches on the frontend and hope to release it by the end of next month.

We also have talks with potential investors/partners coming up so we’re also been working on our Prezi presentation/pitch . This has been especially interesting as it forces us to really think about our business model in a almost visual sense – its been great. For the next meeting however we have to start developing a pitch deck (essentially, a “summery” of our longer presentations)…it should be an interesting experience so see just how we’ll pull that off. I was actually going to ask if anyone knows of a good platform (like Prezi) for presentations. Though I love Prezi, and think its way better that PPt, I am really interested in trying something new – any ideas?
