On Thursday, August 18th, I had the opportunity to talk with the WFU Writing Program Faculty as part of their two-day workshop/retreat. Prior to my presentation I was able to sit in on a discussion with eight of the writing program faculty and five faculty from various disciplines to discuss writing issues. The issues discussed ranged from how to work with student who over quote rather than expressing an idea in their own words and students who cannot write with meaningful detail. The faculty expressed a desire for students to be able to both describe to a purpose and create a meaningful arguments in their writing rather than just offer a presentation of facts. I followed this discussion with a presentation of the various research services offered by ZSR Librarians, describing the instruction sessions, personal research sessions and web resources available to our users. This was a great opportunity to learn more about writing across the academy and increase awareness of library services.
